Blogging Tips: How to Get on "The List" #BlogHer13

Before starting this blog I had no idea on what went on in this corner of the internet world.  Now I'm hosting events, doing sponsored post and headed to blog conferences.  Who would have thunk it!  Just like doing anything you love, you have to keep learning.  To learn more in this blogosphere world you may need to attend a conference or two.  Every conference is different so before you go you have to sit down and think of why you are going.  It could be to attend workshops, meet online friend in person, network with brands, attend parties, meet like minded people or to just get a few days away from the kids!  All of these are very good reasons to go.  Since BlogHer was in my hometown of Chicago that was more than enough reason for me to go.  I'm also a very social person and I love the opportunity to meet new people.

BlogHer made a few changes to their line-up this year.  Instead of the usual "Mommy" blogger topics, BlogHer added a Style Mini Con track.  The best thing since slice bread! My partner in crime, Danielle from The Style and Beauty Doctor sat in on a few of the Style Mini Con panels.

The most informative Style Mini Con panel was "The List".  This panel included Christy from Digital Brand Architects, Geneiviev from Factory PR and Adrianna from DeVries PR.  These ladies rep some major brands and shared some valuable information on how to get noticed if you want to work with brands.  Below are my notes from the panel and an additional two cents.

  1. Show interest in brands you like. If you see something HOT or New you like, tweet it out!
  2. Engagement is Key - This goes with showing interest.  If you are interested in working with them you need to show them.  But don't go overboard and annoy them : ).
  3. Follow the brands everywhere to keep up with what they are doing: Follow on Twitter, Facebook and sign up for newsletters.  Were you the last person to find out H&M is now online?  Get the newsletters!
  4. Bring ideas to the table.  When you hit up a brand don't just says "I want to work with you!".  Tell them what you would like to do, even if it's just a review and giveaway.
  5. Create a one-sheet!  In addition to your long drawn out media kit, make a separate one sheet that quickly outlines your blog or brand.  Reading several pages of a media kit... Ain't no body got time for that!

Good stuff huh!  I hope BlogHer brings back the Style Mini Con next year and make it even bigger!  Did you go to BlogHer?  What was your biggest take away? Please share!  If you have any questions please make sure to include your email address in your comment or hit me up thebabyshopaholic at gmail.

*A portion of my trip to BlogHer was sponsored by EDEN Bodyworks.  Thoughts and opinions are my own.
