Oprah's O You Conference

Saturday I was blessed to be able to attend the O You (Oprah Magazine) Conference here in Atlanta!  It was an all day event and over 5000 women and a few gentlemen attended this one day conference.  So Oprah brought down all her magazine contributors to do what they do best, to help You be your best person.  All I can say was that it was amazing!  Please read after each photo at the O You, I am sharing some of the key points that stuck with me from the speaker.

I went to the conference with two of my friends from work and one of their mother.

Check out this crowd shot!  WOW!  But for it to be that many people it ran very smoothly.  Very organized!
Oprah's Best Friend Gale severed an MC role and got thing started.  I didn't know Gale was that HOT!  She looks gorge!

Lisa Ling was the first speaker.  She started off talking about sex trafficking and teen prostitution,  I know the first speaker talking about something so sad.  But she shared a poem at the end about a man asking God why do things like this happen if there was a God... And God responded, "That's why I made you!".   Powerful!  It's like people that do good are God's super hero's!  Definitely makes me want to do more.
Dr. Oz shared that 70% of how we age are lifestyle decisions.  Make sure you watch the following:
  • Blood Pressure
  • Diet
  • Physical Activity
  • Stress
Dr. Oz also suggests to write down question before you go to the doctor.  Ask about prescriptions before leaving the office (generic, alternatives, etc.).  May help to record the conversation.

I love me some Suze Orman!  I wish I took action on some of the things she said back in the day!  Here are some things that stood out to me.
  • Do Not wait for the Government to save you, You have to Save yourself!
  • Live below your means but within your needs.
  • Put yourself first!  Take care of yourself so you can be strong for you family.
  • It's OK to say NO!

Martha Beck, life coach, spoke about finding your passion.
  • Read the signs to find your passion
  • Look at your tracks
  • Scout the territory - ask questions
  • "Fear not the darkness is gentler then you think"

Nate Berkus sported an interesting outfit.  What stood out to me was "Be a ruthless editor of what you put in your home".  He said we all have a story so let your home tell the story.  NICE!

Sarah Blakely the creator of Spanx came out and shared her story.  She kept working at her 9-5 even after she signed deals with Neimans and Saks.  Even when she quit her job she was still scared.  But 2 weeks after she quit the Oprah show called!

Of course Spanx was one of the sponsor and they had a Boot Bar!  They gave each person a pair of Spanx Tights!

When we get back to the main room these swag bags are waiting in our seats.  So I didn't get a car but the bag had some great items.

All the speakers came out and shared "This is what I know for sure", which is a feature in the O Magazine.
Finally!  My girl Oprah hit the stage!  She SHUT IT DOWN! I wish I could have recorded the whole speech.
  • She said Strength x Strength x Strength equals POWER!  So what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!
  • You have to overcome fear
    • Identify what you are afraid of
    • What would I do if I wasn't afraid
    • What your afraid of isn't even there, it's in your head.
  • Then she spoke about self worth.  She said you are worthy because you were born!
  • "Be Still" and listen to God! She shared they her company meditates twice a day.
She said so many powerful things, again I wish I could get the transcript.

I know some of the things I shared are common sense but sometimes we may need to be reminded and recharged!  I am so happy I went.  I know I  need to do better with the  "Be Still"  and to push forward with my passion.

I hope something I shared can help you or someone you know to be a better You!  What do you do or live by to be a better You?  Please share.

I always think it's not about me ad that there is a bigger picture. I also try to stay connected with people trying to do better and become successful so I can share my path's story and help them along the way! I want to do so much more!

  2. I live by "Lead by example": If I want my son to grow up and become a man. I have to have men around who are my definition of man and also good role models.

    Thanks for sharing!

And you are right alot of these things should be common sense but we often times loose sight of some of these things. Also, as of late you would think that sense isn't as common as we think it is!!

  7. Thank you for sharing your notes with us. I am truly touched by this: a man asking God why do things like this happen if there was a God... And God responded, "That's why I made you!".

Also I'm so jealous you got to see Dr. Oz. I'm more in love with him than I am with Oprah (and I adore her too). What a great line up of people you got to hear speak? Jelly!!

  20. Yep, we have all heard all of this before and many are tired of hearing it. However, WE need to hear it again and again and sometimes again!
Sometimes it takes others to share it with us to make us think! Thank you for sharing! I had to Re-Read it again and I must say that I too once had fear. But now I live free and I do what works best for me. (taking care of me FIRST)
    Luv ur blog!!
