Becoming an Mompreneur by Imperfect Concepts

After starting this blog, I have been blessed to connect with some amazing women that are beautiful, smart, driven and just good people.  Being in the in the company of these awesome women is nothing short of inspiring.  Even though I'm getting close to *clears throat* to forty, I know I can still peruse my dreams.  Some of y'all may not know I used to have my own jewelry line, clothing company, and styling (I still do).  After having a Peyton, my attention was focused on her.

God put the thought of starting a blog with her in my head, even though I didn't really know what a blog was.  And here we are!  I'm saying all this to say, we can be moms and still go after our dreams.  While I head to the "West Side" *in my Ice Cube voice* for LuckFabb, one of my genius friends and business consultant, Tasha from Imperfect Concepts is going to drop some gems on working your way to becoming an Momprenuer.

Being a mom is something really special and it can take up a plethora of time. You know you love your child or children, but you have a passion for something more? Sometimes more might be something other than staying home and chasing a toddler around the house. That may feel right for some, but maybe not for you. Being your own boss is very possible, even when you are being pulled in every direction. Here are some tips to get the ball rolling.

Revisit Your Pre Mommy Dreams

You were once super passionate about something. Before making sure your baby had the latest Hunter boots or gadgets to keep them occupied, you had a dream, visions and goals for your life. Take a break from the family just an hour or two. During this time you are going to indulge in a Venti Frapp with extra drizzle and answer these questions.
  • What makes you happy outside of your family?
  • If you could do something for the rest of your life, for free - what would it be?
  • What was your dream job or career pre family?
  • A problem you wish could be solved? Remember every million dollar company solves a problem.
  • Top 5 things you enjoy doing?
  • Does your dream job evolve around kids or being a mom?
  • What are your favorite things to do?
  • When your mind wonders, what are you thinking about?
These are all very important questions to ask yourself when finding the right business to launch. Say you love eco friendly beauty your daughter and yourself. However, she is allergic to a plethora of ingredients.  Here are some other options:
Creating a eco friendly beauty line
Collaborating with an existing brand to create a diffusion line
Writing an e-book on the importance of beauty ingredients
Teaching seminars and workshops on keeping eco friendly beauty products.
Companies like Methods were started with this in mind. All of these ideas are very possible for a newbie mompreneuer, and not costing a lot of money to get started. After you have answered the questions and brainstormed career paths for your small business, let it sit for a couple days. Go back to what you wrote and see if you still feel excited and committed to the answers you wrote. You want to make sure the ideas are some that you are passionate about.
I'll be back soon to help you get the ball rolling after the passion has been lit in you to pursue your dreams.
Sincerely Stylish,
Tasha

    1. Hi Sara,

Don't see it as a pipe dream. See it as a real dream. Think about the great grandma's who get the bachelors at 75 year olds. Dont let your dreams die. Glad you love the questions.

  9. This brought tears to my eyes. My son is 3 now and has been at home with me since he was a newborn. Sometimes I feel so guilty about wanting to pursue my dreams, I feel as if I'm choosing a career over my child. Thanks for the tips and advice. I am passionate about fashion and can't wait to see my vision turn reality. God Bless you wonderful ladies.
